Weekend Wander

January 16: One weekend we explored the wetland preserves, and got to watch a whole bunch of wild flamingos hanging around.

It started off as one of those family outings that looks good on paper, but ends up with Ken carrying two kids and a little bit a lot of whining from the other kids about the distances we were walking ...

Things looked up once we came up with a game to try to spot some of the different animals/plants from the guide book.
We didn't find the animals, but we found some of their prints!

No incentive we could offer was good enough to make Owen walk on his own - let's hear it for older brothers!

Wild flamingos!!
Happy at last.

We combined this with a trip to look for some "fossilized sand" we had read about. It wasn't quite what we were expecting from the description we read, but it was still a fun find :) My camera died, so we had to rely solely on Ken's phone … I still want to go back and get some better pictures!
