Hong Kong (Part II)

Near the apartment there were several walking trails and hikes, so some afternoons if we got back earlier, we would take the kids and wander on these trails.

Just our luck, we ran into a giant silver buddha on our way back!
We made a stop at the Temple (as in the LDS Temple)
This is how our mornings started
And at around 4 pm, it progressed to this
But back to this - one day we headed out to see the 10,000 Buddhas.
Along the way we stopped at a beautiful cemetery. Well, we didn't know it was a cemetery at first, but we caught on pretty fast.
"Dad, are you sure that is what it means? I mean, you don't even speak Chinese!" This coming from the boy who told someone on the metro "Yeah, I don't speak Chinese, but I do speak English, Spanish and Arabic." News to me - if only I had gone to 4 months of elementary school in Abu Dhabi and watched Diego more often, instead of spending 7 semesters in college learning Arabic and a lifetime with Spanish, I could be fluent by now!
Coolest statues ever. Everywhere.
Followed by the coolest signs ever. Everywhere!

Ready to start! Seeing these Buddhas entailed climbing a whole bunch of steps up the mountain.
Owen, eating a pre hike snack and keeping an eye out for monkeys
So there were more than 10,000 Buddhas (so the guide books told us) and Tyler wanted a picture with each one. Seriously, each one would be his new favorite.

A monkey! No, it was just Will!

This was Hailey's favorite :)

This is the smile you would have if you got to the top of the long climb and found a chair the perfect size, waiting just for you!

Right as I was standing there wondering what they did with all the offerings, this monkey zoomed over and snatched up the oranges, then booked it for the trees. This old woman ran out chasing him with a broom and yelling, obviously berating him and his cronies in the trees for their sacrilege.
Seeing the monkeys in action made this sign more real - they were DEFINITELY not afraid of the people around.

Up at the tippity top of the 10,000 Buddhas hike.
On our way down, we found the monkeys out in full force. They were swinging from the trees, jumping off the buddhas' heads and wreaking havoc upon the plants. The kids (OK, and the adults) were so excited, we stayed there for 20 minutes watching them.

I loved seeing the excitement and laughter in their faces!
Tyler ran ahead on the way down, telling everyone we saw about the monkeys up ahead.  Will ran all the way down because that's where the closest bathroom was.  Ken ran all the way down because sometimes Will doesn't get his pants unbuttoned in time by himself.  Hailey and I had a nice relaxing stroll.

We hit some markets afterwards, and tested some of the produce.

So pretty!
Everytime we were on this road I thought of my sweet little nephew, so here it is Nathan
Late dinner on the street! Chicken, with some kind of curry cinnamon stuff on it. It was good!

These kids are troopers! World class travelers :)
